QCTO Certificate: Truck Driver (NQF 3)

This qualification is made up of the 3 compulsory modules. The course duration is 12 months and focuses on 3 areas, Knowledge module (theory based), Practical skill modules and Workplace based modules. The qualification is an alternate to TETA’s qualification. This qualification composes of quarterly written assessments and a final exam at year end.

UNIT 1: KNOWLEDGE BASED MODULE

1.1 Health, Safety, Quality and Legislation

PURPOSE OF THE KNOWLEDGE MODULES

The main focus of the learning in this knowledge module is to build an understanding of to build an understanding of the health, safety, quality and legislative theory required for the practise of a truck driver.

The learning will enable learners to demonstrate an understanding of:
  • Theories and principles of relevant legislation, (Including Transportation of Dangerous Goods) regulations, codes and by-laws (40%)

  • Concepts, theories and principles of first aid (20%)

  • Concepts, theories and principles of fire fighting (20%)

  • Theories, concepts and principles of quality control in transportation (20%)

PURPOSE OF THE KNOWLEDGE MODULES

The main focus of the learning in this knowledge module is to build an understanding of to develop an understanding within the learner of the importance of environmental sustainability and energy efficiency factors impacting on undertaking business operations and processes in an environmentally sustainable and responsible manner. The learner will also be exposed to the concept and practices with regard to ethics in order for them to be able to interpret ethical and non-ethical behaviour and practices.

The learning will enable learners to demonstrate an understanding of:
  • Theories and principles of relevant environmental sustainability requirements (40%)

  • Concepts, theories and principles of energy efficiency (40%)

  • Theories, concepts and principles of ethics (20%)

  • Knowledge of AARTO

The focus of the learning in this module is on providing the learner an opportunity to become familiar with electrical diagrams, components, circuits, testing and measuring instruments and develop the skills and knowledge to use and care for them.

  • Read and interpret electrical diagrams

  • Identify and care for electrical equipment

  • Identify and use portable testing and measuring instruments

  • Identify and use fixed measuring instruments
